Britton warns team mates not to think too far ahead in build-up to Horndon clash

Ben Britton insists Fives & Heronians have to take it one game at a time in their bid to win Essex League Division Two.

After 10 games, Fives currently sit nine points clear at the top of the standings, but third-placed Belhus are just a further four points back.

Saturday sees Fives visit a Horndon side languishing in mid-table, but Britton is adamant his team cannot afford to take their eyes off the ball.

“We have to remain focused on our jobs. We have to take it one week at a time,” said the Fives captain.

When the sides clashed on the second day of the season, it was Fives who triumphed by eight wickets at their Paddock home.

Horndon were bowled out for 152, before Fives cantered to victory within 24 overs, after a fabulous 50 from Gary Norris.

Despite the wide margin, Britton is wary Fives may not find it as easy this weekend.

“They’ve got batsmen who can put together decent innings and bowlers who can do damage too,” he added.

“Hopefully we can win the toss, choose what we want to do and get another win.”
