Woodford Green slumped to a heavy defeat against Division Three rivals Benfleet in their penultimate match of the season.

Put into bat by the home side, they saw captain Hamaad Sayyed and Jagdeep Singh Chagger made a steady enough start against the new ball.

But after Sayyed was the first to fall, wickets continued to tumble as Chagger was the only other batsman to reach double figures.

Green were eventually dismissed for 77 in the 37th over and Paul Frensham (6-13) was the chief destroyer for Benfleet, who saw openers Samuel Coelho and Ben Munday take them to the brink of victory.

Zain Ul-Abiddin (2-20) nabbed a brace of wickets as some consolation for Green, but there was no denying Benfleet as they eased to an eight-wicket victory in just 17 overs.

Green, with seven wins and seven losses to date, complete their campaign with a home match against bottom club Epping next weekend.
