Woodford Green claimed a comfortable win over Essex League Division Three rivals Stanford in their latest outing.

Put into bat, they saw openers Hamaad Sayyed and Saad Ijaz (45) put on 98 for the first wicket.

But Sayyed then looked on as four wickets fell for just 15 runs to leave them 145-5, before Ashish Rai helped add 57 for the sixth wicket.

Sayyed fell for 84, having hit 12 fours, but Rai smacked four sixes and five fours in his 63 from 45 balls to lift the home side to 245.

And that target proved to be out of Stanford’s reach, as Usman Azhar struck three early blows with the ball to leave them 38-3.

Jack Cossey and Paul Richardson got in on the act to leave the visitors 81-5, before a 50-run stand for the sixth wicket held up Green.

Zubair Bhatti (3-31) ended the partnership, before Azhar came back into the attack and took the final two wickets to finish with a fine 5-18 haul and clinch a 98-run victory for Green.
