Woodford Green edged to a one-wicket win at Essex League Division Three rivals West Essex after a thrilling encounter.

The home side were put into bat after losing the toss and saw Amrit Ryatt (2-47) and Jack Cossey strike with the new ball to leave them 46-3.

Chris Masters (3-42) and Paul Richardson (3-36) then combined to good effect to run through the rest of the home side’s batting line-up as West Essex were dismissed for 176, with last man Delawar Khan absent.

Green got off to a bad start in their run chase, though, as Saad Ijaz, Ryatt and Sam Davies all fell cheaply to leave them 24-3.

Anthony Palmer helped add 53 with Haris Siddiqui, who hit three fours in his patient 34 from 60 balls.

But Green looked up against it when their seventh wicket went down with the total on 105.

Ashish Rai departed for 41 off 45 balls, with Matthew Field (20) following to make it 159-9, before Richardson and Zubair Bhatti sealed the win.
