Woodford Green had to settle for a draw from their rain-affected Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Three clash with Benfleet.

Having put the hosts into bat, captain Hamaad Sayyed saw Hussnain Kazmi remove the first four batsmen to fall to leave Benfleet 67-4.

A 62-run stand for the fifth wicket proved key, though, as the home side recovered to reach 148-9 from their 36-over allocation, with Kazmi (4-44) and Amrit Ryatt (3-33) having most success with the ball for Green.

Sayyed (26) saw the visitors slip to 75-4 in reply, before Jawwad Hussain joined David Roberts in an unbroken 64-run stand.

Roberts was unbeaten on 50 from 68 balls as Green closed just 10 runs short of their victory target on 139-4, with Hussain 23 not out at the other end as they collected a total of eight points from the fixture.

Green will hope for better weather when they host Basildon in their first home fixture of the 2018 campaign next weekend.
