Wanstead kept their Essex League Premier Division title bid on course with a comfortable win over Hornchurch.

Visiting captain Billy Gordon chose to bat first after winning the toss, but Jamie Sorrell and Brian Barnard fell early to Jack Lord and Zain Shahzad respectively.

Lord also accounted for Ronnie Saunders to leave the visitors 20-3, before Bhalandip Singh (33) put on 58 with skipper Gordon, who was then run out for 37 to see Hornchurch 99-5.

Zeeshan Khan held firm at one end as Herons skipper Joe Ellis-Grewal ran through the lower order and was 37 not out as Hornchurch were dismissed for 170.

Taqi Abbas hit two sixes and a four in his 23 off seven balls, before falling to Ellis-Grewal (4-45) and Shahzad was out for a duck in reply.

Hassan Chowdhury (46) and Feroze Khushi (53 not out) put on 90, before Kishen Velani smacked an unbeaten 62 off 27 balls, with five sixes and six fours, to seal an eight-wicket win in just 31 overs.
