South Woodford secured a memorable Essex League Division One win at leaders Hadleigh.

The visitors overcame a poor start with the bat, as well as spells of rain and lightning, to reach 217.

And they then kept their nerve in the field to defend that total and secure a 17-run victory.

South Woodford slumped to 26-4 and, although Michael Harris (23) and Kasey Harris (46) fought back, they were up against it at 122-7.

But Mohammad Ali Syed Zaidi hit three sixes and eight fours to reach 61 off 49 balls and put on 68 for the ninth wicket with Saihaj Jaspal (23) to set Hadleigh a more challenging target.

The hosts reached 74-0 in reply, before Michael Harris (2-33) made the breakthrough.

And Hadleigh slipped to 129-6 as Haider Ali Syed Zaidi (2-28) and Mohammad Ali Syed Zaidi (2-33) combined.

Kabir Rashid also got in on the act to take 3-54, despite conceding 10 wides, before Jaspal took the last Hadleigh wicket to complete victory.
