Woodford Wells only saw 16 overs of play possible in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One opener with Belhus, before the match was abandoned.

Tanveer Shah fell without scoring to former Essex staffer Max Osborne, but Nabel Shaikh (21) and Hywel Jones (42 not out) made starts as Wells reached 70-3.

It was the same story in the Division Two derby between Oakfield Parkonians and South Woodford.

Parks were put into bat by visiting captain Joe Craddock and saw Harry Shirt dismiss Neil Brathwaite for a duck.

New overseas signing Ravi Teja Dwaraka hit four fours in a run-a-ball 21 before succumbing to Saihaj Jaspal (2-26), who also dismissed Ubaid Ur Rehman Kiani.

Opener Shane Vamadevan held firm to reach 27 and see Parks to 55-3 when rain forced the teams off in the 12th over.

Fives & Heronians had put Wickford into bat at The Paddock and saw Jake Poulter strike with the new ball before rain stopped play with the visitors 60-1 after 12 overs.
