Oakfield Parkonians eased to a comfortable win over Essex League Division Two rivals Basildon to move to within eight points of third place.

The visitors were put into bat by Parkonians but saw their openers make a solid enough start.

But Anujan Thiru (2-40) eventually dismissed both and Selvam Ramasamy got in on the act at the other end.

Abdul Rehman Razzaq then produced a superb spell of 10-4-17-4 and Ramya Upadhyay claimed a wicket as well as a run out, before Ramasamy (2-27) returned to wrap up the innings at 145 in the 43rd over.

Parkonians had few alarms in reply, as Shane Vamadevan (45) and Neil Brathwaite shared a notable opening stand.

Jibran Azam weighed in with 35, with Brathwaite unbeaten on 56 when Parks secured their eight-wicket victory in the 25th over.

Fifth-placed Parkonians will look to keep the pressure on Loughton and Horndon in the race for third behind the runaway top two, when they visit Wickford next weekend.
