Hutton closed the gap on Division Two leaders Hainault to three points after a draw with Fives & Heronians at The Paddock.

The hosts chose to bat first but Mitchell Fenn struck two early blows with the new ball and Jonathan Mowll also had success to leave them three down.

Hamza Umer (29) held firm and was joined by captain Jake Poulter, who then had support from the lower order as Fives reached 225 in the 50th over.

Poulter top scored with 62, as Greg Summers (29), Ben Britton (24) and Jonny Kay (23 not out) also contributed.

Fenn (3-62), Vivian Paver (3-74) and Tom Patterson (2-15) had most success with the ball for Hutton, who saw Chris Steinberg (28) and captain Dan Hagger (36) get off to a solid start in reply.

But once the openers fell, the rest of the top order fell away as Kay (3-49) and Summers (3-41) did some damage, before Fenn (47 not out) and Usman Jan (36 not out) dug in to see Hutton close on 178-7.
