Hainault & Clayhall kept their pursuit of Essex League Division Two leaders Hutton going with a three-wicket win at Basildon.

Stand-in captain Etinder Bopara put the home side into bat after winning the toss and saw Mousshin Ismail make early inroads with the new ball, taking three wickets.

Steven Ayres held firm for Basildon, but was the only batsman to reach double figures as Ismail went on to claim 5-19 from his eight-over spell.

Ryan Hurst (3-8), Zoheb Sharif and Arshad Mughal also had success as the hosts were skittled for 68 in the 35th over, but Hainault’s batsmen did not have it all their own way in reply.

Sagar Joshi fell for a duck and Dominic Hurst also departed cheaply, but Sharif, Ismail and Omar Akram all made it into double figures for the visitors.

And although more wickets fell as Hainault chased quick runs, Bopara and Mughal saw them to their target with three wickets to spare in the 15th over.
