Hainault & Clayhall have one hand on the Division Two title following their 47-run win over Fives & Heronians.

Victory leaves Zoheb Sharif’s men 17 points clear of Hutton, with just one game remaining this season and both clubs having already secured promotion.

Put into bat by Fives captain Jake Poulter, Hainault saw Dominic Hurst lead the way with a six and six fours in his 58.

Omar Akram (38), Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara (26), Sharif (24) and Etinder Bopara (20) also chipped in as Hainault were dismissed for 222, while Stuart Knapman (3-62), Greg Summers (2-32) and Jack Perham (2-45) had most success with the ball.

Fives lost Hamza Umer without scoring to Arshad Mughal, but Terry Ballard (35) made a start before falling to Ryan Hurst (3-37).

Poulter held firm as wickets fell around him, finishing unbeaten on 62 as Sharif (3-45) and England international Bopara (2-45) combined to dismiss the visitors for 175 in the 40th over.
