Future certainly looks bright for Herons after youngsters clean up
Wanstead’s tremendous success in their 150th anniversary year continued with their under-19s being crowned South East Region Club T20 champions.
Just a week on from taking the Essex title, the young Herons represented the county against the best teams the South East had to offer.
In their semi-final, Wanstead were drawn against Stanmore of Middlesex, with the Overton Drive club winning by 66 runs to progress.
Having posted a total of 151-4 in their innings, Wanstead produced a good showing with the ball to restrict Stanmore to just 85 in reply.
In that match, Waseem Quereshi top scored for Wanstead, opening the batting for 50, while Misem Zaidi finished with figures 3-11, as economical as it was prolific.
Their reward was a final against Guildford, with a tremendous bowling display from Wanstead skittling the Surrey champions for just 101 from their 20 overs.
The Herons never looked in danger in reply, eventually cruising to victory by eight wickets with four overs to spare to crown another impressive weekend for the club.
Saurav Prabhakar took 3-15 to get Wanstead off to a flyer in the final, while there successful chase was aided by 50 from Feroze Kushi in reply.
