Fives & Heronians claimed a fine Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Two win at Wickford after a stunning innings from Australian all-rounder Shawn Tuitt.

The hosts chose to bat first after winning the toss and had leading contributions from Dean Etchells (77 not out) and Chris Westwood (61) as they made 294-7 from their 50 overs.

Tuitt (2-50) and Sarfaraz Ahmed (2-57) nabbed braces for Fives, who saw Pete Kilpatrick (23) put on exactly 100 for their first wicket in reply with Tuitt.

Charles Allen fell without scoring, but captain Jake Poulter added another 89 with Tuitt, hitting six fours in his 45 from 62 balls.

And after Lakshan Rodrigo departed for a quick 13 off eight balls, having hit a six and a four, Billy Amas added an unbroken 81 for the fifth wicket as Fives reached their target with 5.3 overs to spare.

Amas hit two sixes and a four in his unbeaten 34 off 22 balls, but Tuitt was the undoubted batting hero, finishing on 173 not out from just 134 deliveries, after smashing eight sixes and 20 fours.
