Herons recorded a 148-run victory at Overton Drive

Wanstead & Snaresbrook captain Joe Ellis-Grewal believes his team turned in a professional performance to beat Billericay by 148 runs in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division.

At home on Saturday, the Herons won the toss and batted first, with Kishen Velani scoring 106 before the Overton Drive outfit declared on 298-7.

With the ball, Jack Lord and Ellis-Grewal took three wickets apiece as Billericay were dismissed for just 150 in reply.

It was a first league win of the season for Wanstead after their trip to Chelmsford was abandoned last weekend, and Ellis-Grewal was content with how the team played.

“It was a solid display all-round from us against Billericay,” said the Herons skipper.

“We were able to quickly get a good score on the board, and that allowed us to declare early.

“The bowlers were all fantastic and it was nice to get a first league win of the season.”
