Valentines Park outfit triumphed by 88 runs at home, with Ashar Zaidi hitting 92 with the bat

Ilford skipper Theeban Tavarasa was delighted to see his team record an 88-run win at home to Shenfield in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division.

After winning the toss at Valentines Park, the hosts elected to bat first and recovered from 87-5 to make 197 before being all out, with Ashar Zaidi hitting 92.

With the ball, captain Tavarasa finished with figures of 4-27 as Ilford skittled their visitors out for just 109 in reply.

The Valentines Park club were able to claim their first win of the season after last weekend’s trip to Billericay ended in a draw.

And Tavarasa was pleased to see Ilford claim all 25 points against a Shenfield side he feels has real quality this term.

“Shenfield are a top team with plenty of talented players, so to beat a team like them is great,” he said.

“They’re a strong unit, but both teams were missing players and it was a really good battle.”
