Hainault needed just 15 overs to chase down Basildon’s total of just 68 after Mousshin Ismail shone with the ball

Captain Zoheb Sharif was pleased with Hainault’s swift three-wicket success against Basildon in Essex Division Two, with less than 49 overs played at Mopsies Park.

After winning the toss, Hainault elected to field on a difficult batting wicket, with Mousshin Ismail taking 5-19 as the hosts were all out for 68 inside 35 overs.

The visitors made hard work of the reply with Omar Akram’s 13 the top score, though Hainault did rattle off the chase inside 15 overs.

Sharif says the chase was speedy because the visitors were wary of possible incoming rain, meaning there may have been a few more risky shots than they would have liked, while the wicket also caused some difficulty.

“It wasn’t our best display, but it was a tough pitch to bat on for both teams,” admitted Sharif.

“In truth, our chase probably looks worse on the scorecard than it actually was.

“We wanted to get the chase over with quickly so that the weather didn’t intervene again.

“Having games rained off recently has been frustrating, so it was nice to be able to pick up a win.”
