Jack Carter Pavilion team won by 75 runs to reach second round
Hainault & Clayhall were graced by a famous spectator last weekend as former Manchester United and England midfielder watched their 75-run win over Buckhurst Hill in the Dukes Essex League Cup first round.
The legendary midfielder had been watching his daughter take part in a netball competition at the nearby Redbridge Sports Centre.
Scholes wandered over to watch some of the cricket match and posed for pictures with Hainault members, including chairman Irfan Shah.
Half-centuries from Sagar Joshi (68) and Saleem Masood (50) saw Hainault progress to the second round.
The Jack Carter Pavilion side will now entertain Fives & Heronians in the second round on June 10.
This weekend sees Hainault begin their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One campaign at Colchester.
Hainault will hope to get the new season off to a good start with a win after securing promotion last season by winning the Division Two title.
