Fives & Heronians climbed up to second in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Two table with an emphatic victory over Harlow at The Paddock.

Put into bat by the visitors, they made their rivals rue the decision as they piled up 325-8 from their 50 overs.

Australian Shawn Tuitt (39) made runs at the top of the order, but it was captain Jake Poulter who shone brightest with the bat, hitting a superb 134.

Ben Britton (31) and Michael Batt (29) also got off to starts as the hosts kept the scoreboard ticking over.

And Poulter then produced early breakthroughs with the ball, removing Harlow’s top three for single-figure scores.

New-ball partner Jonny Kay also had success as Poulter finished his 10-over spell with 4-38, before Tuitt (2-61) and Sarfaraz Ahmed (3-19) shared the other wickets to fall as Harlow were dismissed for 140 in 27 overs.

The win allowed Fives to move above local rivals Oakfield Parkonians, who dropped down to third after being replaced at the summit by Loughton, following defeat in their top-of-the-table contest.
