New Wilderness outfit remain two points behind league leaders Colchester

Eton Manor head coach Jamie Connors was proud of his side after an excellent performance at King George’s Playing Fields secured a 20th win in the London One North last weekend.

Manor ran in six tries against Brentwood with Michael Eghan, Garth Tucker, Rory Moore, Ben Lockyer, Callum McKie and Nick Horton crossing over in the 26-point victory.

It keeps them two points behind league leaders Colchester with just five matches remaining this season.

Connors said: “First half we blew them away by scoring four tries and we had the game won then really.

“It is a big slop at Brentwood and what added to that was the wind so it is hard to get out of that half.

“When we were up the slope we played better than them and we were clearly the better team.

“I was proud of the performance because it is a really difficult place to play.”

Connors praised the defence after the visitors managed to restrict the home team to one try in the second period, when Manor were playing up the slope.

It keeps him buoyant about catching Colchester, especially with the top two going head-to-head on the final day of the campaign at New Wilderness.

“Our defence did well. Brentwood scored just before half time, which made me a little bit nervous,” revealed Connors.

“But the forwards have been excellent, as have the defence, and it has been good all season and we have the best defensive record so we did really well.

“We can only control what we can control and hopefully that is us winning and getting a bonus point every week before we play Colchester on the final day of the season.

“We haven’t lost for a long time at home so we are confident if we can get it down to the final day.”
