Charlie storms through but brother jack just misses out
Charlie Butcher of Wanstead Central took a giant leap towards the county under-25 singles title as he booked his place in the semi-finals of the competition on Sunday.
In a special one-day event held at the Essex County Club in Westcliff, England junior call-up Butcher, was in the same field as brother Jack for the high-quality competition.
And it was Charlie who made it through on the day. He began with an impressive 21-4 hammering of J Summers from Grays Town Bowls Club and then marched into the semis by thumping Alix Rouse of Saffron Walden by 21-5.
He will now take on Ryan Mann of Silver End in the semi-finals which takes place on July 15, again at Essex County.
It was Mann who disposed of Charlie’s brother Jack in the quarter-finals.
Jack had seen off home bowler S Rowey by a thumping 21-4 in his first round game, but Mann got the better of him by 21-17 in a close game to deny the Butcher boys a chance to play each other.
The other semi-final will see James Fuge of Essex County take on Sam Moss of Great Baddow.
