Tanya Hurst was the hero for the Redbridge & Ilford women’s first team after scoring twice to earn her side a 2-1 victory over Canterbury in their latest outing of the campaign.

Unfortunately the rest of the teams had little to cheer on a poor weekend for the club.

The men’s first team made the trip to Thurrock on Saturday in the East League hoping to mark Andy Pearce’s birthday.

But they couldn’t give him anymore reason to celebrate unfortunately.

It was the home side that took the lead in the first half and it was deserved with the Redbridge goal coming under threat on several occasions early on.

They responded well, though, and levelled the scores when Marc Tovell slotted into the bottom corner after a good move.

It was 1-1 at the break, but the visitors were unable to build on Tovell’s goal.

They had chances to go ahead, but couldn’t take them and Thurrock caught them on the counter-attack to earn a 2-1 success.

Redbridge’s second team were also beaten as they lost 2-0 at home to East London.

The thirds tasted defeat as well, going down 1-0 to Colchester and the men’s academy could only give Romford a walkover.

Hurst’s double inspired the women’s first team, but the seconds had the weekend off with no game.

The thirds were set to be in action, but they were given a walkover against Romford.

On Sunday the Ladies vets team faced Cambridge City in the first round of the over-35s trophy.

Unfortunately they couldn’t provide any more cheer for the club despite two more goals for Hurst.

She struck twice, but that was as good as it got for Redbridge.

They were on the wrong end of a six-goal thriller and exited the competition after losing 4-2 at home.
