It proved to be a good few days for Ilford AC’s Ahmed Abdulle who enjoyed success on two fronts recently.

Having set a new 1500m personal best of three minutes and 59.71 seconds in the Watford Open Graded Meeting to finish third, he then went and took top spot in the annual Barking park run 5km event on Bank Holiday Monday.

The competition doubled up as the sixth round of this summer’s ELvIS event and Abdulle took the lead at the kilometre stage and never looked back.

He was able to claim his second win of the series in another new best time of 15.37.

He was backed up by Sam Rahman in 11th with 17.38 and Steve Philcox in 13th in 17.49 who once again won the M50 age group trophy.

They finished second and third respectively in the M50 age category to make it an Ilford one-two-three in the age group honours as well as securing an overall runner-up spot for the men on the day.

Two runners who returned to the squad for the first time in quite a while were Abdi Berleen in 61st with 20.10 and Frank McGowan with 20.38 for 71st.
