Camacho on O2 Arena card with Hayemaker

Ilford cruiserweight Wadi Camacho is happy to appear on a show featuring his ring hero, former double world champion David Haye at the O2 Arena next weekend.

The January 16 bill sees Haye, 35, return after a three-year absence to face Mark de Mori, an Australian who has been fighting in Germany recently.

Former Prizefighter winner Camacho is a big admirer of the ‘Hayemaker’ who is looking for an impressive return as he seeks a duel with British and Commonwealth heavyweight king Anthony Joshua. And Camacho, who meets Czech rival Jindrich Velecky and has shared a training ring with Haye, said: “David is a double world champion and a special talent – it’s good to see him back in action.”

The Ilford fighter returned to winning form in his last contest after three straight losses, but needs to start 2016 with another good victory to set up a title chance in his next outing.

Jose Lopes, Billy Dib, Kay Prospere, Josh Kennedy and Tony Dodson face selected rivals on the show that opens the 2016 boxing calendar, before the action switches to York Hall six nights later as Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions feature the British featherweight title fight between champion Ryan Walsh and Scot Darren Traynor.

Peacock gym-based Ahmet Patterson, unbeaten in 16 fights, faces Midlands rival Ryan Aston and local fighters Sam McNess, Eddie Hussein and Ben Smith also appear.

The Matchroom bill at the Copper Box Arena on January 30 sees middleweight John Ryder face dangerous Belarus boxer Sergey Khomitsky for the WBA international title, while Chadwell Heath’s Ben Hall faces Kris Agyei-Dua for a Southern Area super-welterweight belt.

Former world title challenger George Groves also features on a show that includes unbeaten prospects Martin J Ward, Ohara Davies, and Lucien Reid.

*The weigh-in and draw for the ABA Youth championships, for boxers born in 1998 and 1999, take place at West Ham on Tuesday, with preliminary contests scheduled at the same gym on January 14 and the Fairbairn show on January 22.
