Ilford prospect triumphed at York Hall on Friday

Ilford super welterweight Hamzah Sheeraz earned a fourth straight win when outpointing Nicaragua’s Miguel Aguilar at York Hall on Friday night.

The 19-year-old made the most of his height and reach advantage as he fired the long range shots at his stocky rival, a veteran of 55 pro contests, but Aguilar soaked up some solid shots.

A fierce right put Aguilar on the floor in the second round, but the Ilford boxer was content to continue to dominate the four-round contest at long range.

He stayed in control, piling up the points until the final bell when referee Mark Bates scored Sheeraz the victor by 40-35.

“He was a durable opponent and it was a good learning fight as I hope to move up to a six rounder in my next outing,” said the fighter from Gants Hill.

That contest could well come in September when Sheeraz looks to get some supporting bout action on promoter Frank Warren’s big London show.
