Ilford light heavyweight Anthony Yarde launched his 2018 campaign and continued where he left off, scoring another inside-the-distance win at York Hall on Saturday.

Promoter Frank Warren is keen to keep the WBO Inter-Continental and European champion busy, with Yarde back in action on a big bill at The O2 in April.

Yarde slammed Frenchman Tony Averlant into retirement at the end of the seventh round for his 15th pro success and gained useful experience, going past four rounds for the first time.

The 26-year-old took his time against an experienced campaigner, but the stream of solid hooks and uppercuts punished Averlant, who was decked twice in the sixth round by fierce body shots.

Another painful round followed before Averlant was retired by his corner and the Ilford prospect admitted he was happy to go the extra distance.

“I am learning all the time and with my trainer Tunde Ajayi and Frank Warren, I have the right men to take me to the top,” he said.

It was also a winning night for a trio of local boxers having their second pro bouts on the bill as Hamzah Sheeraz, Umar Sadiq and Harvey Horn all triumphed.

Talented 18-year-old Gants Hill super welterweight Sheeraz showed his promise in outpointing Plymouth campaigner Christian Hoskin Gomez in their four-round clash.

Super middleweight prospect Sadiq floored Manchester’s Yailton Neves and dominated the contest for a 40-35 points win.

Flyweight Horn produced the boxing skills that proved too much for Czech rival Patrik Bartos, taking a 40-37 points victory.

• Charlie Driscoll, Charlie Duffield, Harley Benn, Zak Chelli and Sanjeev Sahota fight on a Frank Warren bill at York Hall on Friday.

The following night at York Hall, Robert Asagba, Justin Menzie, Delon Jumah, Harlem Eubank and Chris Davies are named on a Smith Sports bill.

Also on Saturday, Johnny Coyle, Matt McCarthy, Freddie Turner, Mike Sakyi, Richie Gray and Aaron Morgan are featured on a packed promotion at the Brentwood Centre.
