Ford man stalls as the heavens open
Like Kryptonite to Superman, there is only one thing that can stop Ford Sports bowler Bill Nelson in his tracks – RAIN!!
The veteran bowler had a field day at the London Parks Finals over the weekend, winning two competitions, but when it came to the singles final, he came up short when the rain came down.
Nelson began the finals day with a dominant performance in the Champion of Champions single3 against Terry Lichkin of Wanstead Central.
Just like last week in the Group 5 Finals, he was too strong for his Central opponents. That time it was Colin Jones, this time Lichkin as he stormed to victory by 21=7.
He followed that up with victory in the pairs against Tony Ward and Tony Daden from Poplar.
Playing with his old Ford team-mate Glynn Walls, they recorded another big win by 23-6 to take that crown as well.
So that left the London Parks singles where Bill took on Ian Christey of the Silverthorn club.
Christey played an excellent game, but Nelson was sunk by the rain as much as anything else as he went down 21-14.
Nelson has had to pull out of the Lee Valley singles because of personal commitments, giving his tie to George Warren of the Phoenix Club.
