Local triathlete Claire Bloom produced one of the best performances of her career to finish 11th at the World Triathlon Age-Group Championships in Austraila.

The Roding Valley Tri club member came out of the water in eighth place after an 11min 35sec swim and sat with a pack on the bike leg.

And after battling against tough windy conditions, which saw her drop a little, Bloom got into her running stride on the final leg as a fellow Brit gave chase.

A determined effort in the final 200 metres brought Bloom home just outside the top 10 and she said: “The most amazing race! I’m officially 11th in the world for my age group.

“I had the swim of my life, managed to get on a pack for the bike of about six and had to work very hard to stay with the pace.

“I hit the run and wondered if I’d make it but once I got into my running I was fine. I gave it my absolute all and I’m so proud of my performance.”
