Buckhurst Hill triathlete competing in Chicago
Buckhurst Hill’s Claire Bloom is hoping to make her mark on the global stage at the World Triathlon Age Group Championships today (Thursday).
Bloom has flown out to the United States to compete in the event in Chicago and is looking to improve on her previous efforts from 2014.
“I’m race ready for Chicago,” said Bloom before jetting off.
“I’m looking to improve on my seventh position from last year and due to the course being very flat, the race promises to be very fast and competitive.
“Weather conditions in Chicago are very changeable, though, and there is the chance of rain or storms on the day!
“I will again be flying the David Lloyd Leisure flag thanks to their very generous sponsorship, without which I would be unable to compete.”
Bloom certainly goes into the event in good form, having won her age group competition at the Lee Valley Aquathlon recently.
The event consisted of a 500m swim and a 5.5k run, with Bloom completing the elements in a combined time of 35 minutes 42 seconds (swim 9.29, run 26.13).
She added: “Somehow, although this was a five race series and I only participated in one race, I came in third overall!”
Another podium spot in the States would be lovely.
