Wanstead bowler Bob Lockyer is the first man into the quarter-finals of the county unbadged singles after two fine performances.

In the Area Final, he got the better of Kevin Reid of Woodford by 21-16 to progress to the final stages of the competition.

And there he made short work of Neil Shipley from the Parkeston Railway Club, winning by 21-13 to march into the quarter-finals of the prestigious competition.

There he will face either Derek Sageman of Gloucester Park or Mick Meager of Great Baddow on a neutral green.

He may well be joined in that quarter-final by Phoenix bowler George Warren, who earned his place in the last 16 with a 21-20 win over Dave Baxter of Wanstead Central a few weeks ago.

He now travels to Radwinter to take on Kevin Moore for a chance to play either Ashley Greaves of Aveling Park or Brentwood bowler Geoff Byatt in the last eight.
