Barkingside’s Scott Malvern called up to national team

Barkingside’s Scott Malvern has been called up to represent his country as part of Team England this weekend at the Walter Hayes Trophy event at Silverstone.
The classic end of season showdown is expected to attract an entry of up to 150 Formula Ford cars with drivers competing in a knockout competition with heats followed by quarter and semi-finals leading up to a grand-final on Sunday afternoon.
Readers of leading motorsport weekly paper Motorsport News voted for Malvern along with Ash Crossey and three-times Walter Hayes Trophy winner Joey Foster to represent Team England.
They will compete against teams from USA, Canada, Germany, France and Ireland amongst others.
In all up to a dozen nations are expected to be represented.
On the achievement, Malvern said: “It’s an honour to represent your country and I am very proud to be able to.
“Although every driver will want to win the event outright for themselves we will also have to consider the team dynamic.
“No doubt some tactical driving will come into play to ensure we score as many points as possible for our respective nations.”
The Walter Hayes Trophy takes place at Silverstone this weekend with qualifying and heat races running throughout Saturday, building to the grand final climax on Sunday afternoon.
