Gulfer: We can beat Haringey

Barkingside boss Gursel Gulfer is confident his side will get their first win of the season when they travel to Ryman North’s bottom club Haringey Borough on Tuesday.

Side are without a game this weekend, having been knocked out of the FA Cup, so Gulfer will take the opportunity to have an extra training session.

“As we don’t have a game this weekend, we will train Thursday and Sunday in preparation for Tuesday’s huge game against Haringey Borough,” said Gulfer.

“It’s a six-pointer – it’s as simple as that. We need to win this game.

“I believe we can win the game, if we perform like we have been. It’s heartbreaking to be sitting here with two points from eight games, because I know if we had a top striker, we wouldn’t be in this position.”

Having battled to a goalless draw against Heybridge Swifts at Cricklefield Stadium on Saturday, Barkingside lost 3-1 to Harlow Town on Tuesday.

Despite an impressive first-half performance, Side were made to pay for their early missed chances as the prolific Alex Read helped himself to a hat-trick to earn the hosts the points and take his tally to 102 in 117 games.

“We need to be more clinical, there’s no point creating all these chances, if we aren’t going to take them. We had enough to win two games!” added Gulfer.

“I kept the same team as Saturday and will continue to do so. I want the boys to gel and get used to playing together, I want continuity. Making wholesale changes won’t help anyone.”

Haringey also have two points from eight games and are looking for their first win of the season, but Gulfer is confident ahead of their vital clash.

“There’s no doubt about it, we’re going there to win the game. It’s a very hard division, but we don’t fear anyone, even the top teams,” he said.

“I’m always confident of getting a positive result. I always believe.”
