Youngsters triumphed against New Hall in final

Bancroft’s School’s under-13 girls’ tennis team have been crowned county champions after triumphing in the final of the Essex Championships.

The team comprised of Simran Chadda, Lottie Gillett, Maanvii Arya, Sienna Bhumbra and Avneet Sapal.

In the initial group stage, Bancroft’s secured wins over Brentwood, Cumberland and St Paul’s.

Against Clapton A in the quarter-finals, Bancroft’s had to rely on a shootout to prevail after the match had ended in a 3-3 draw.

The youngsters then beat Clapton B 5-1 in the semi-finals to progress to a showdown with New Hall.

Despite their opponents having a good pedigree, it was Bancroft’s who triumphed to become county champions.

“I am delighted with what the girls have achieved this season,” said Amanda Wainwright, the head of tennis at Bancroft’s.

“They have worked ever so hard in training and the matches, supporting each other on and off court so it was a genuine team victory.”
