The latest news from the East London Runners club

East London Runners member Thomas Grimes enjoyed a competitive outing at the latest race in the Sunday Cross-Country League.

Grimes clocked 35 minutes and 28 seconds at the event in Royston to place fifth and finish as the fastest club member.

Also in action were Judith Vonberg (53.22, 238th), Maud Hodson (54.12, 252nd), Katie Whitton (55.50, 272nd), Doug Mansell (59.03, 304th), Michael Wilson (61.58, 319th) and Alex Jameson (68.07, 337th).

Grimes had also been in action the day before, leading the club’s charge at the final race in this year’s Chingford League at Victoria Park, placing 14th after clocking 27.44.

Paul Marshall (33.24, 83rd, Karen Levison (33.42, 87th), James Creed (33.49, 89th, Jimmy Dale (35.22, 106th), Wilson (35.47, 117th), Hodson (37.56, 136th), Stuart Norris (38.52, 143rd), Zuzana Urbanova (39.05), Tim Aylett (39.25, 154th), Kat Maskell (40.27, 160th), Alexandra Rutishauser-Perera (43.11, 183rd), Claire Emery (44.16, 189th), Sheila Kennedy (45.35, 201st) and Helen McGuinness (46.48, 208th) also competed.

Paul Quinton was another club member to enjoy a fine showing over the weekend after coming third in 58.36 at the St Luke’s Hospice Test Track 10k, while Diana Rexhepaj was 261st in 1:36.15.

Plenty of ELR members were in half marathon action, with Stuart Kelly 43rd at the Milton Keynes Winter race in 1:25.50, while Caroline McGirr set a new personal best of 2:12.27 at the Wokingham event.

Four club members were in action at the Hampton Court half marathon, with Dan Gritton (1:21.44, 57th) the first club member home, followed by Roselin Boramakot (2:03.52), Cailtin Diniz (2:05.22) and Faye McCarthy (also 2:05.22).

Katherine Harris (25.28), Rachel Le Roux (26.41), Rexhepaj (27.50) and Joanna Wood (29.21) all completed a 5k on Valentine’s Day at the Chase the Moon event in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, where Sarah Burns clocked 52.23 for 10k.

Club member Michael Bamford completed a duathlon race in Ashridge in 1:18.33 to finish third in the M50-54 category.
