A large Roding Valley Triathlon contingent made the relatively short trip to Stanborough Park, Welwyn Garden City for the Hertfordshire Triathlon on Sunday.

The even formed part of the Roding Valley’s annual club sprint challenge and saw athletes take part in a 750m, a 20k bike ride and a 5k run.

With all competitors, both male and female, swimming in one wave, it proved to be a physical challenge.

The swimming leg was further complicated by the sun glistening off the water, making it hard to locate the buoys.

Once the swim was over, athletes then had 100m of transition before starting the undulating 20k bike ride.

The event then completed with two-laps of a hilly course around Stanborough Park, totalling 5k for the run leg.

Brett Savidge was the first man home for Roding Valley, with Karen Cole the fastest women, with both first in their respective age groups.
