Redbridge boss George Christou expects another tough test against Essex Senior League rivals Barking on Saturday.

But Motormen go into the Oakside Stadium encounter on a 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions, having also kept nine successive clean sheets.

They ran out 2-0 winners over Little Oakley on Saturday and led leaders Enfield 2-0 in their Errington Challenge Cup tie on Monday, before it was abandoned in the second half.

"We're in a good bit of form, the boys are confident," said Christou.

"It's a hell of a run at any level and we've had seven wins in those nine, which is positive.

"The only little moan is the two 0-0s, we should've taken more.

"Saturday was tough and it has been a tough run. We've had Woodford, who were fourth, Little Oakley fifth and Saffron Walden eighth.

"Barking will be another tough test with a few ex-players and their manager Nick used to coach at Redbridge, so that adds onto the game.

"They have quality and can hurt anyone. But just as we have to worry about them, they have to worry about us. We deserve to be second on merit."

George Purcell broke the deadlock at the weekend with a 70th-minute penalty and quickly added a second to seal the points.

Substitute Ibrahim Kehinde was sent off in the closing stages, but Enfield's 2-0 home loss to West Essex meant Christou's men cut the gap at the top to two points, having played two more games.

And the boss hailed their ongoing solidity, adding: "We knew Connor [Wheatley] was a fantastic goalie and we're lucky to have him at this level. We grew up with him and he's a friend of ours.

"But it's not just him, it's the back four, the midfield, the front two or three. It starts from the front.

"What's most pleasing is we've had some injuries, but the back four, the boys who come in have stuck by what we've been doing and we're all pulling in the same direction."

Christou shuffled his pack on Monday but Motormen maintained their momentum as first-half goals from James Barlow and Joey May had them on the way to a win over Enfield.

A nasty head injury to Jack Grosvenor forced their second-round tie to be called off, though, and Christou said: "We made nine changes to the starting line-up on Monday and were 2-0 up at half-time against the leaders and holders.

"There's a great atmosphere among the boys and they're all working hard for each other.

"Both centre-halves went up for the same ball and one was in a bad way. Obviously we were gutted, being 2-0 up, but football comes second in those circumstances."
