Counting is underway for the Havering and Redbridge London Assembly seat, with just under a quarter of the votes already processed.

Conservative incumbant Roger Evans has 40 per cent of votes so far, while Labour’s Mandy Richards has 26 per cent and Residents’ Association of London candidate Malvin Brown is third with 10 per cent.

The Liberal Democrat’s Farrukh Islam, a former Redbridge councillor, is eighth of the nine candidates, ahead only of the National Front’s Richard Edmonds.

But with about 79 per cent of the votes still to be counted at ExCel, much can change.

In the London mayoral contest, 59 per cent of the votes counted back the Conservative Party’s Boris Johnson, with Labour’s Ken Livingstone polling 26 per cent.

Lawrence Webb of the UK Independence Party/Fresh Choice for London is third with five per cent.

More than three quarters of Redbridge’s mayoral ballot papers have yet to be counted.
