Young Redbridge musicians played to an audience of hundreds at the O2 last week at a musical extravaganza bringing together music from ten Olympic and “gateway” boroughs.

The Ilford-based Jack Petchey Foundation funded the Gateway2Music concert on February 12.

Performers from the Redbridge Music School, including the wind band, took to the stage along with 280 bands, orchestras and choirs.

After their separate performances, they came together by an original piece called ‘Gateway Fiesta’ by award-winning young composer Thomas Hewitt Jones.

The Gateway2Music group previously performed together in 2010 at Sadler’s Wells to celebrate the Jack Petchey Foundation’s tenth anniversary.

Founder Jack Petchey CBE said the concert was a “huge and ambitious undertaking”.

He added: “I am very proud of what has been achieved and that we really are making a difference to young lives.”

The foundation was established in 1999 and has since invested more than £85million in grants and projects benefitting young people in London, Essex and Portugal.
