A 14-year-old school girl and her brother have set up an anti-bullying campaign after being victims at the hands of their peers in the school playground.

Lashai Ben Salmi and brother Tray-Sean, 9, both of Eton Road, Ilford, set up “Put the red card up to bullying” campaign and as a result have been put forward for our monthly award.

Lashai and others in her class were bullied for three years - both verbally and physically - at primary school.

Lashai said: “Because my brother and I have experienced bullying, we thought it was good to help kids that have been bullied too and give them a voice.

“People from all sorts of places have opened up to us about being bullied - people have been bullied everywhere.

“We want to help the victim and the bully.”

The proactive pair came up with the idea of selling wristbands, featuring the campaign’s name, to help fund the travel when giving talks in schools on preventing bullying. The first set of wristbands were produced last week.

“People seem to like the wristbands, they have been getting a good response,” added Lashai.

The wristbands can be bought online for £2.85, but if purchased directly from Lashai will cost just £2.

On her brother, she added: “I am really proud of Tray-Sean, especially when he so young.

“It is nice to be working together on the project.”

“Put the red card up to bullying” is not the first project though the family have worked on.

Lashai and her brother wrote personal development book, entitled Kidz that Dream Big! – Essential tips on how to have fun! dream big! and make money doing what you love, for youngsters.

Lashai, who won the 2011/12 Recorder/Redbridge Rotary Club Young Citizen Award, was inspired to write the book after her mother Sabrina wrote a book in 2011.
