The borough’s young cabinet have seen their proposals for the spending of a £100,000 fund approved.

Redbridge Council’s cabinet agreed at their meeting last night to the plans for the Youth Council and Young Cabinet Priorities Fund, which will aim to benefit children and teenagers in a variety of ways.

Schemes include workshops to build young people’s confidence and make them feel safer, drama tours in schools on mental health issues and information to help them explore future career options.

The proposals were agreed by the young cabinet in March.

Cllr Alan Weinberg, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “This is a unique moment for the council and the young people of the borough.

“Not only have we listened to the concerns they raised with us during Local Democracy Week last year, we’ve put our money where our mouth is and given them the opportunity to set a £100,000 budget to tackle those issues.

“I’ve been impressed with the professional and thoughtful way the Youth Council have approached this task.”
