The Woodford Green branch of HSBC will close on July 22 – the third bank to close in Redbridge in under a year.

The branch, in The Broadway, will follow NatWest in Seven Kings and HSBC in Wanstead who have shut their doors in the last 12 months.

An HSBC spokesman said: “We never take the decision to close a branch lightly, and we understand it’s unsettling for the local community.

“Unfortunately, with an increase in the use of online and telephone banking over the past few years use of the branch has fallen significantly, and we’ve taken the difficult decision to close it.”

The spokesman said customers would be able to use The Broadway’s post office for their day to day banking.

He added that footfall at the bank had fallen by 40 per cent in the last five years.
