A Woodford Green family has raised more than 20,000 for the hospital treating their two-year-old daughter for cancer.

Yasmin Parsons was diagnosed with leukaemia in August, just a few weeks after the birth of her baby brother Isaac.

She is undergoing two years of treatment, including chemotherapy, at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Parents Andrew Parsons and Karen Attwood, of Danbury Way, encourage donations for the hospital with their blog Our Life With Leukaemia.

Around 21,500 has been raised so far with donations from the website and events including a photography auction.

Yasmin has lost her hair through chemotherapy and has had to undergo painful procedures and tests but early signs show the treatment is working.

Mum Ms Attwood said: “It’s going very well so far.

“A new phase of intensive treatment started on December 27 but after that she will be on 18 months maintenance so it should be a lot easier then.

“She’s a very bright two-year-old and she knows she’s been very ill and that the doctors and nurses are there to make her better.

“Because she has no concept of time it’s hard to explain to her that in two years it will all be over but she copes very well.”

Isaac, now six months old, was born when Yasmin was seriously ill, but the two have just enjoyed their first Christmas together.

Ms Attwood said: “It has been extremely difficult for my husband and I.

“The diagnosis was one of the worst bits but find that writing the blog has really helped us process it all.”

Yasmin suffers from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, which can be fatal but is successfully treated in the majority of cases.

Great Ormond Street Hospital, in central London, offers state-of-the art care for ill children but needs to raise over 50million for its work every year.

Head of community fundraising Matt Forrest said he was “delighted” with the money raised by Yasmin’s family.

It will go towards building new facilities, developing treatments and providing the best equipment and support to patients and their families.
