A Woodford Green disability campaigner intends to grill Mayor of London Boris Johnson on accessibility to public transport at a debate next Tuesday.

Sulaiman Khan, of Spring Gardens, who has a type of muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair, will get a chance to challenge Mr Johnson after successfully applying to attend the Mayor’s People’s Question Time.

Mr Khan intends to ask Mr Johnson to publicly commit to keeping portable ramps at Underground stations, including Woodford, which help people in wheelchairs board trains.

He said he also wants to raise the need for better training on how to respond to disabled passengers for public transport staff.

Mr Khan, who supports the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, said: “Sometimes buses won’t stop for you and they don’t open their ramp. They tell you it’s broken but Transport for London has said if it’s broken, the bus shouldn’t leave the depot.”

The debate will be held at the Old Town Hall in Stratford.
