Police are appealing for information after a woman was attacked and robbed of her bag in South Woodford.

Officers were called to reports of a mugging on High Road at 10.19pm on Friday (April 20).

The incident took place as the woman returned to her home after visiting an international shop, in High Road, at around 10pm.

She saw a man approach her as she walked down Priory Close, who then reportedly grabbed her and dragged her down a path.

He is believed to have kicked her head and her body until she let go of her bag, which contained her purse and bank cards.

The suspect then ran down Abbotsford Gardens with the bag.

He is believed to be a white male, in his late 20s or early 30s, of stocky build and was wearing dark shorts, a light t-shirt and running shoes.

The bag was later found on Harold Road and will be collected and sent off for forensics.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

The Metropolitan Police’s specialist Operation Mexico team is investigating the incident.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has information should call East Area Command Unit by dialing 101, Tweet @MetCC or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
