A woman and a teenage girl made a lucky escape as a house went up in flames on Saturday.

Four fire engines and more than 20 firefighters tackled a blaze at a house in Westwood Road, Seven Kings, after they were alerted at 12.49pm.

The fire was under control by 2.15pm and the two occupants were treated on site for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews before being taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

A smoke alarm was fitted in the property but did not sound. A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Everyone should have at least one working smoke alarm on every level of your home and the safest option is to have those linked together.

“This will give the earliest warning if there is a fire in your home.”
