Wheelchair basketball projects in the borough got a boost when Paralympic swimmer, Amy Marren, presented the Mayor of Redbridge with a cheque for £2,000.

Cllr Muhammed Javed collected the funding at the Jack Carter Centre, The Drive, Ilford, on Monday of last week.

The money, which was granted as part of the Balfour Beatty Sport Development Grants alongside 95.8 Capital FM’s Help a Capital Child, will be used to develop the Paralympic sport in the borough.

The award is one of 17 made in London, totalling almost £35,000, which will be used to aid community projects.

The Redbridge Wheelchair Basketball project has already enabled young people from local schools to take part in extra-curricular taster sessions, progress to represent Redbridge at the London Youth Games and join the player pool for Frenford Wheelchair Basketball Club.
