Our West Ham blogger looks at another super summer in the transfer window

As long suffering Hammers, we’re used to bargain basement signings, dodgy loan deals and watching our best talent scarper for pastures new...however these days the likes of Aaron Creswell and Winston Reid are signing new long term deals, and we’re beating Everton to the signing of an Italian international, and that simply wouldn’t have happened two or three years ago, whatever way Everton fans try to spin it.

Twitter is literally awash with people either jealously sniping at the club’s business; or those who can put tribalism to one-side are lauding what is turning into yet another highly successful summer window.

The truth is, whether the media and rival fans wish to acknowledge it or not; is that right now the image, the very perception of West Ham United being a plucky little underdog is being replaced by a dog with some very big teeth.

Why did Angelo Ogbonna choose West Ham over Everton? Was it money? Perhaps. Was it the lure of London’s bright lights? Maybe... or was it because he realised along with Dimitri Payet, Cresswell and Reid that with the impending move to Stratford, the club really is on the verge of evolving beyond recognition.

The sceptics of the stadium move must now see the bigger picture; we simply wouldn’t be hanging on to our top talent or luring big names to the club if we were staying at The Boleyn ground.

Highly sought after players are buying into the Olympic dream, they know with the kind of money generated from being in such a stadium the club will be able to cough up the fees and wages necessary to secure the talent to win trophies and compete in Europe. It won’t happen overnight but the vision, ambition and means to achieve are all in place.

Whilst the club are moving forward at a rate of knots, you’ve only got to look at the sides that finished around us...are they progressing at the same rate? Last season Palace, Stoke, Southampton and Everton all finished above us, but with the exception of Palace’s swoop for Cabaye, the rest of their collective business is hardly going to keep Slaven Bilic up at night.

Mohamed Diame (remember him?) left West Ham in order to put himself back in the shop window for a top six club; by putting in man of match/Roy of the Rovers virtuoso performances for Hull City.

Great plan! But what Diame failed to realise is exactly what Cresswell, Reid, Ogbonna and Payet did...is that West Ham may not be a top six club at the moment, but they’re a good bet to be one sooner rather than later.

The potential of West Ham once we move to Stratford really cannot be underestimated or ignored; one can only imagine and salivate at the kind of names the club will attract when we move in.

Exciting times ahead.
