The doors of one of Ilford’s oldest buildings will be flung open to the public on Saturday.

The secrets of Ilford Hospital Chapel, Ilford Hill, will be divulged during free guided tours of the Grade II listed building from 10am.

The chapel was founded in about 1145 as a hospice for old and infirm men and by 1219 it was a resting place for lepers as little medical treatment could be offered.

In addition to the tours, there will also be also a variety of stalls selling everything from handmade greetings cards to bric-a-brac and memorabilia.
