A new swimming pool and gym complex are set to be created at Wanstead High School as part of a Redbridge Council revamp.

The building work is set to begin at the school in Redbridge Lane West in autumn and will also see the school’s classrooms be replaced with teaching blocks and an upgrade of dining and sports changing facilities.

Headteacher Bob Hamlyn said: “We are delighted that Redbridge has plans to make much needed improvements to Wanstead High School’s facilities.

“This proposed investment will go a long way to making sure we can continue to deliver first class education to the young people in this area.”

Proposals for these schemes will be presented to cabinet and a planning application will follow.

Both projects with be funded through capital investment.

Additional funding will be sought from Sports England for the swimming pool and leisure facilities.

The long-term costs of the swimming pool and gym are expected to be covered by admission fees.
