An international evening, at Wanstead High School, in Redbridge Lane West, last Wednesday, saw attendees perform poetry and dancing, whilst enjoying food from around the world.

Year 12 students Elise, Hussain and Kito helped host the event, which was co-ordinated by deputy headteacher Loren Razzaque and the Equalities party.

It was the first time the school has held the event, but plans are already underway to hold the evening again, said Ms Razzaque.

She said: “The wonderful warmth and unity that this event exuded made it very special, so a big thank you to all the staff and students who took part.”

“Highlights of the evening included a catwalk show, organised by Miss Hassan, where teachers and children strutted their stuff in a range of international outfits.

“The delicious food served up by the caterers and brought in by staff and, to top it all, Mr Kyere and two students showing us their uber-cool dance moves!”

All proceeds went to the Care4Calais refugee project and the PTA for supporting the school.
